Dear student,
here a proposal of a new thesis:
Scientific evidence-based agricultural policies:
meta-analysis of climate-mitigation in agricultural practices
Project in collaboration with the Joint Research Center
Supporting policies in the agro-environmental context require scientific evidence based on rigorous and systematic models of knowledge synthesis, such as systematic reviews and meta-analyses. In the context of the new structure of the Community Agricultural Policy, the European Commission has an urgent need for scientific evidence, on which to base the choices concerning the main strategies for environmental mitigation to climate change in progress.
A series of agronomic practices and specific technologies applied to the livestock sector can guarantee more or less evident effects of emission mitigation of the main greenhouse gases and the main nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus), in the environmental sectors and, at the same time, provide potential ecosystem services, ensuring adequate qualitative and quantitative levels of food production.
During the thesis, the student will learn the most advanced methodologies of scientific evidence synthesis (systematic reviews and meta-analysis) that should be applied to the specific context.
The student will work in close collaboration with experts (Andrea Schievano, in primis) from the Joint Research Center of the European Commission (JRC).
Compatibly with the health emergency, a short period of study can be foreseen at the department in Ispra (VA).
