Call for paper

Dear Colleagues,

as guest editor of the journal Water (ISSN 2073-4441, http://www.mdpi.com/journal/water) I invite you to submit a manuscript before the 1st February 2020 to the spercial issue:

‘Assessment of Current and Future Vulnerability of Coastal Flooding’

Rationale:

Coastal flooding caused conspicuous economic and life losses in many low-lying flood prone environments. The risk, in view of the present changing climate and environment, is increasing. Managers require reliable maps to plan a sustainable urbanisation, and tools to alert the population in case of danger. However, the evakuation of the magnitude and impact of the flood hazard, both in the long and short term, is very a challenging task, since the sources of recent coastal flooding events are different, such as:

  • direct dune overflow of salty water, with possible dune breaching
  • overflow of fresh water at the river mouth, in presence of flood and high tide, with possible dike breaching
  • failure of the sewage system, in possible combination of the above

Reserahcers of many different disciplines, including coastal engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, metereology, remote sensing and geotechnics, are invited to collaborate, by analysing and integrating all the different sources of the hazard, and improve the knowledge in the field of flood vulnerability assessment and mitigation.

The special issue welcomes papers that suggest examples, methods or tools that help predicting the extent of flooding in a reliable and effective manner, from both short or long term perspectives.
