The course aims at providing fundamental knowledge in computational material science. Attention will focus on modeling materials at different length and time scales. The students will become familiar with the methodology and applications of three modeling techniques: molecular dynamics, dislocation dynamics and the finite element method.
Besides attending traditional lectures, the students will engage with programming and in the presentation of articles from the recent scientific literature to the class. Programming will be performed using the commercial software MATLAB.
Students are not expected to be proficient in MATLAB prior to the start of the course.
