Theoretical principles and investigation tools and strategies of petrography have many possible applications in the industry of natural and artificial inorganic non-metallic materials used e.g. as building materials. This includes the characterisation and certification of stones according to national and international regulations, the analysis of the their technical properties and environmental factors controlling deterioration, the analysis of building materials deterioration in historical buildings for the assessment of cultural heritage vulnerability, the characterisation of ceramic materials and binders for archaeometric purposes and for using industrial waste into new building materials.
The aim of this course, is therefore to promote competency in petrographic investigation methods and to prepare qualified professional petrographers for access by industry.
