GENETIC TOXICOLOGY & ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY (SCP9088037)
Six frontal teaching credits are offered in English to students with previous knowledge of Genetics and Chemistry (https://en.didattica.unipd.it/didattica/2019/SC1731/2014/000ZZ/SCP9088037/N0). Principles of environmental chemistry and toxicology will be a frame of knowledge to better present and discuss toxic agents and toxins differing in chemico-physical properties, environmental circulation and mechanism of toxicity in living organisms. The course aims at improving the student’s aptitude to recognize, correctly rank and estimate the possible risks posed to human health and environmental health by old and new products, including those from bio-based technologies. Case-studies, investigation procedures and remediation strategies will be offered as a basis for the development of critical thinking and new skills. Reasonably, the student may then be interested to attend to Bioremediation classes (2nd year, 1st semester).
